Health & Safety Contraindications

EMS training is not suitable for individuals with any of the conditions listed below. Please review each category carefully before proceeding.

Heart & Cardiovascular Conditions

  • Artificial pacemaker
  • Implanted defibrillator
  • History of heart attack (cardiac infarction)
  • History of bypass surgery
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Angina pectoris
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Arteriosclerosis
  • Disorders of the bloodstream or circulation
  • Sick sinus syndrome
  • Carotid sinus syndrome

Skin Conditions

  • Open wounds, skin injuries, eczema, sunburn, or similar conditions on or near electrode placement areas
  • Psoriasis
  • Neurodermatitis
  • Generally, very dry or sensitive skin

Metabolic Conditions

  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Gallstones or kidney stones

Implants & Foreign Objects

  • Metal implants
  • Piercings located on or near electrode placement areas

Neurological Conditions

  • Epilepsy
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Multiple sclerosis (MS)
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Spastic spinal paralysis
  • Disorientation or impaired awareness
  • Severe or chronic migraines

Bleeding & Circulatory Disorders

  • Hemophilia or bleeding disorders
  • Thrombosis or history of blood clots
  • Internal bleeding
  • External bleeding
  • Circulatory or blood flow disorders

Internal Medicine & General Health

  • Tumors or cancer (current or past)
  • Recent surgery within the last six months
  • History of stroke
  • Acute or chronic inflammation
  • Inflammation of leg veins or varicose veins
  • Lymphedema
  • Fluid accumulation in body cavities (e.g., pleural effusion, ascites)
  • Fever or acute illness

Pregnancy & Reproductive Health

  • Existing pregnancy
  • Intrauterine device (IUD/coil) within 6–8 weeks of placement

Orthopedic Conditions

  • Bone fractures
  • Herniated or prolapsed discs
  • Spinal disc syndromes
  • Progressive muscular dystrophy
  • Osteoporosis
  • Rheumatic diseases
  • Gout (including joint-related gout)
  • Tendinopathy (tendon disorders)
  • Orthopedic complaints or injuries
  • Conditions that limit or complicate physical activity

Other Contraindications

  • Influence of drugs or intoxicating substances
  • Anxiety or fear related to electrical stimulation
  • Influence of alcohol
